HOUSTON, Oct. 22, 2026 — A leading independent operator has commissioned a new skid‑mounted gas‑injection compressor package for its shale gas EOR pilot project in the Permian Basin, targeting improved hydrocarbon recovery from depleted horizontal shale wells.
The reciprocating gas‑injection compressor is engineered for variable suction pressure conditions typical of mature shale pads, delivering stable discharge pressure up to 34.5 MPa to push produced associated gas back into the shale formation for huff‑and‑puff injection. The unit adopts an explosion‑proof design compliant with IECEx and ATEX standards, supporting continuous unmanned operation at remote well sites with limited on‑site utilities.
Field engineers noted that cyclic gas injection helps maintain reservoir energy, mitigate rapid pressure decline and reduce liquid loading in horizontal laterals. Prior simulation shows the pilot scheme can lift estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) of the test pad by 12–18% over a 5‑year evaluation window.
The compressor skid is equipped with integrated HART transmitters, anti‑surge control system and remote SCADA monitoring, allowing real‑time adjustment of injection flow rate and discharge pressure. All core components are packaged on a single skid for fast transportation, on‑site installation and commissioning, which greatly cuts down construction lead time for scattered shale well clusters.
The operator stated that if the pilot delivers consistent performance, additional gas‑injection compressor trains will be rolled out across adjacent shale blocks, turning recycled produced gas into a cost‑effective EOR agent while lowering methane venting and flaring volumes.
